Customer Satisfaction on the Rise: The 2011 Homeowner Survey
Remodeling projects can be daunting, but choosing the right contractor makes a world of difference. Published in the July 2011 issue of Qualified Remodeler, “Keeping Tabs on Your Performance”, by Kenneth W. Betz, discusses the results of the 2011 Homeowner Survey, conducted in part by RenovationExperts.com. Compared to polls from the previous few years, overall customer satisfaction has increased. However, even the happiest remodeling clients found some aspect of their remodeling process wearisome. Find out how communicating your concerns and presenting your expectations from the get go are vital to ensuring that your home renovation project goes smoothly.
Be Wary of the Lowest Price
Even in tough economic times, a significant number of homeowners passed on the lowest bidder. But why choose the more expensive bid?
“Those who paid a bit more were generally more satisfied and willing to recommend their remodeler to a friend,” explains Betz.
Moreover, the survey indicates that homeowners who built a relationship with the remodeler they hired had better a customer service experience overall, being won over by a company’s sense of reliability and integrity rather than a smaller price tag.
Express Your Expectations
The survey indicates that only 4.7% of homeowners moved out during the renovation process. The disruption of a remodel can halt many home activities from bathing to preparing meals. Fortunately, 73.8% of homeowners stated that their remodeler made attempts to minimize inconveniences such as dust, noise, and temporary lack of access. Therefore, you and the contractor should agree on a reasonable schedule to follow. In addition, make sure the contractor expresses any obstacles, such as weather, that may crop up along the way. Opt for a contractor that will ensure tidiness at the end of each workday. A good remodeling company will keep you regularly updated on the project’s progress and keep your comfort in mind.
Don’t Be Left in the Dark!
According to the 2011 survey, about half of customers didn’t think their contractor was an expert on all things relating to remodeling. However, 80% of clients were in agreement with product recommendations given by their remodeling company. With resources on home improvement projects becoming more and more accessible to homeowners, it has never been easier to make educated decisions about your remodeling project. Perhaps customers are less naive about renovating than in years past and will admit that their contractor is not an overall home improvement guru, but rather a specialist in a distinct group of trades. Doing your homework will keep your contractor’s words from going over your head and allow you to provide the best explanation of what you’re seeking from the remodeling project.
By and large, homeowners are much more satisfied with the results of remodeling companies they chose to hire. Although, some clients still had gripes over the renovation process, contractors are becoming more aware of homeowner concerns. The survey suggests that more renovation businesses are increasing their professionalism to match ever-increasing customer demands. So quit putting off your remodeling project and get the renovation you’ve always wanted!
